Homemade Almond Milk

Ya'll... Now that I've made my own almond milk I'm never going back to buying it from the store! It tastes so much better, it's super easy to make and all you need is water and almonds,. Trust me, once you make it a few times, it will become second nature. I added some flavor to mine with a few additional ingredients which I highly recommend, it's supers tasty, I had a few taste testers and they all agreed! However, the good news is even if you don't have those additional ingredients to spice it up, you can still make your own almond milk with just almonds and water! You can even try making cashew milk the same way, so if you don't have raw almonds but have raw cashews use those to make cashew milk. There is always a way to Scrounge!

Ingredients:

  • 1 c. raw almonds (or raw cashews if that's what you have)

  • 4 c. water

  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup (optional)

  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extra (optional)

  • Nutmeg (optional but highly recommended!)

  • Cinnamon (optional but highly recommended!)

  • Nut bag or cheese cloth

  • Glass jar to put milk in when finished

Preparation:

  1. Soak almonds for 8 hours or overnight (I now always have a jar of almonds soaking in the fridge so I'm always prepared to make almond milk!)

  2. Strain and rinse almonds

  3. Place almonds, water, maple syrup, vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon in high powered blender and blend on high for about 1 minute or until blended

  4. Over a large bowl, slowly pour almond milk ( I usually do a little bit at a time) in a nutbag or cheese cloth and squeeze to strain. Continue doing this until all milk has been empited from blender

  5. You will have almond pulp left over, you can either discard or keep to make another recipe. Almond pulp recipe coming to the blog soon! Why waste it when you can Scrounge with it! :)
