Salmon Tacos

Tacos at our house are a Scrounge dinnertime staple. Each time I cook tacos they are slightly different depending on what I have at home. If you like my sweet potato tacos, then I think you'll like these salmon tacos too (assuming you like salmon)!

These are a great alternative to a vegetarian taco if you're looking for some added protein. Salmon is my favorite protein, I'm a big seafood lover. Sometimes I add both sweet potatoes and salmon to my tacos if I'm feeling crazy ;) ....always be Scroungin'! Try being creative with what you have at home to make some healthy tacos, I promise you won't be disappointed.

As I mentioned, salmon is my jam! It has so many health benefits, it’s super easy to make, it tastes delicious and it's a Scrounge staple! Salmon is a great source of protein, it's high in omega 3 fatty acids, vitamin B, good source of potassium, contains antioxidants, may benefit weight loss and may reduce the risk of heart disease.

That being said, knowing which salmon to buy is imporant because not all salmon is created equal and therefore is not all healthy. I always buy wild caught Alaskan sockeye salmon, it has a darker red flesh. It's imporant to buy wild caught and not Atlantic farmed salmon. Read more about this in my "salmon" post here.

T h e S c r o u n g e

If you don't have these exact ingredients, Scrounge with the things you have at home and you may end up creating something even better!

  • If you don't have arugula, use spinach or romaine or do without.

  • If you don't have greek yogurt, use sour cream, a non dairy alternative, or spreadable goat cheese.

  • If you don't have salsa, slice up some tomatoes or use pico de gallo.

  • If you don't have goat cheese, use feta, or any other sprinkle cheese you have at home or take a grater to a cheese block and shred some onto the taco.

I n g r e d i e n t s

* 2 tacos per person for a meal

Tortillas - I love any of the Siete grain free tortillas. They have almond flour, cassava flour, chickpea flour, etc. Almond flour is my fav, but they're all great healthy options!

1 Salmon fillet

1 Avocado

Greek yogurt

Hot sauce - I love Valentina (optional)

Crumbled goat cheese or crumbled feta

Arugula or any type of lettuce you have at home

Salsa or pico de gallo

Olive oil

Sea Salt


Rosemary and or dill wed (optional)

D i r e c t i o n s


Preheat oven to 350˚F.

Place wild sockeye salmon on cooking sheet.

Cover salmon with olive oil.

Season with sea salt and pepper. I also love adding some dill and fresh rosemary on top if you have it, but if not no sweat, it’s great with just salt and pepper.

Bake for 10-15 mins - depending on how thick the salmon is it may need to cook longer.


While salmon is cooking begin prepping the taco ingredients.

Heat up the tortilla by placing right on gas stove with the flame on low or place in a skillet for a few seconds on each side or you can use the microwave.

Spread greek yogurt on shell.

Spread a few slices of avocado on top of yogurt.

If using hot sauce splash a little onto the avocado and yogurt and spread together.

Take a fork to the salmon filet and start flaking off some pieces to add to your taco

Top with arugula, crumbled goat cheese and salsa.
